Gluten and constipation

Are you having trouble with irregularity? Gluten could be the culprit!

Who ever thought gluten and constipation could be related? Gluten seems to be the cause of so many health issues especially issues involving the digestive system.

One of the more common symptoms of gluten intolerance or Celiac disease involves constipation and or bloating.

I don’t know about you but when I am constipated I don’t feel good. I get very irritable and just have this overall sensation of being clogged. I feel tired and groggy and it just gets worse if more than one day passes that I can’t “go”.

Lucky for me I follow a gluten free diet 99% of the time so it does not happen often!

Constipation can be a serious thing and should never be taken lightly.

Your body’s small intestine is lined with millions of microscopic, small, finger like protrusions called villi. Villi are so small that you would need a microscope to see them. Villi help absorb nutrients in your body by carrying them into your bloodstream when you eat.

A person who is gluten intolerant can not digest gluten properly so what happens is over time these tiny, little villi eventually get so worn that they get destroyed.

When certain parts of your intestine are expecting certain food to be digested properly and it does not happen, the result is the hardening of your bowels right in the intestinal tract, which you guessed it leads to constipation.

See how constipation and gluten can go hand in hand?

Constipation is your body’s way of letting you know that something is not right.

Constipation keeps toxins in your body that need to be eliminated.

The best cure for constipation caused by a gluten allergy, gluten intolerance or celiac disease is a gluten free diet. If you really stick to your gluten free diet you will notice that your constipation will be almost gone within 2-3 weeks.

I try my very best to always eat gluten free but sometimes life gets in the way and I do cheat and believe me the next day I know it because I am not only feeling crappy but I am constipated!

The gluten free diet is really truly the best thing I could of ever done for my health and well being.

Always remember before going on any kind of diet or life style change please consult your doctor and discuss with him or her the facts about gluten and constipation.
